Valve Kit required with HydroClear installation if double trap is present:
A double trap condition is the presence of two traps in a series pipe configuration. Without venting between the two traps, gravity flow of condensate will be impeded, resulting in a back-up of condensate. If the Plexaire unit is interfaced with a safety switch, repetitive cycling will occur as the Plexaire unit overcomes the back-up condition. If there is no safety switch interface, the backup condition will cause the drain pan safety switch, if used, to open the a/c control circuit. If no safety switch is used, a drain pan overflow condition will result.
Traps may not be obvious and the installer should closely look at the piping configuration to determine if venting is necessary. For example, piping that extends a short distance below a home’s foundation, travels horizontally out from under the foundation, and then comes vertically to ground level or higher is a trap.
If the piping configuration is unknown and a trap may already be present, the installer has the option of either investigating the piping configuration, which may be difficult to do since much of it may be hidden from sight, or installing the vent valve with the Plexaire unit just in case there is a hidden trap. Having the vent valve installed when not needed will not adversely affect operation of the Plexaire unit.
The Plexaire HydroClear automatically prevents AC clogs and flooding events with smart technology that monitors and cleans condensate drain pipes on a scheduled basis. To speak to a representative, call us at (862) 812-7673 or email cleanestdrains@plexaire.com
